The aim of the academy programme is to help advisers move into the Business Protection market with real confidence and give them expert support as they start building their professional network and engaging with clients. Delivered through a combination of formal training workshops, 1:1 and group discussions for coaching, all on a virtual basis (MS Teams).

I have been at Pangea Life for 8 years, a small independent brokerage, based on the south coast that specialises in business protection advice. One of our aims was to establish ourselves as part of the local professional community, working alongside solicitors, accountants and corporate finance advisers to raise the awareness of business protection, to generate a regular stream of referrals and to ensure the advice given by us, complements a more holistic service to business owners.
Consequently, the business protection cases we work on are often high value and complex, requiring a deep understanding of our clients and how the various policies can be applied to difference circumstances (even with the occasional need to work closely with insurers to protect risks not before considered or catered for by their current offering).
We also provide employee benefit advice, covering Relevant Life, Exec IP, Group Risk and PMI, ensuring business owners have a one-stop advice shop for all their protection needs.
Since 2020 I have also harnessed the power of LinkedIn to improve the profile of Pangea Life and business protection in general. This in turn led regular requests from other brokers to support their development on a one-to-one basis, acknowledging the limitations of the training and development opportunities available from networks, insurers and their own employers. It was this lack of support available to advisers that led to the creation of the Business Protection Academy – I just wish it had been available when I was starting out.
